Burnett is, without a doubt, a good pitcher. It doesn't showcase your talent when you're pitching for a team like the Blue Jays unfortunately, but he's a hard-throwing left hander. Burnett would be a great addition to an already struggling Braves rotation.

Braves acquire Vazquez from White Sox ...make offer to Burnett...
The Braves are ...probably...out of the running for a trade that involves Jake Peavy. Probably. So, they went out and got themselves a seasoned Post-Season pitcher with over two-thousand K's in Javier Vazquez. Now, it just so happens, they have made an offer to Free Agent Pitcher AJ Burnett. Which is apparently in the realm of $16 million annually (yearly for you retards out there) with an option for a fifth year.

Braves sweep Metropolitans...
The Atlanta Braves are on a tear. Literally, I think there's a hole in the universe, that every time the Braves win a game ... the hole tears more. Who knows, maybe I'm going nuts, or maybe the Braves are a very good team.
Chipper Jones for example, is still hitting over .400 (knock on wood) and it's almost June. Anyway, the Metropolitans are in meltdown mode right now, and when any team is in meltdown mode what happens? There's talk of firing your manager. Now, Willie "Please Like Me" Randolph has been running his mouth like an idiot for what seems like months (only once, I think) saying stuff on the radio that all the bad talk is racially motivated. . . Sigh. And then the whole thing with Billy "Talk to Me" Wagner, about the team not talking to the press after a loss.
Now David Wright is getting in the mix and I quote: "Losing like this, I hope, would ruin their nights." Apparently Wright's tone suggested that he didn't think that it would. The Mets have been playing abysmal baseball - they aren't clicking - and their losses show for that inadequate performances.
They signed Johan Santana to a $137.5 million dollar deal, and he's 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA. Like I've said time and time again, one player can not change a ball club. Last years downward spiral for the New York Metropolitans has carried over into 2008.
The Mets for the first time since April 13 are below .500, their payroll is $138 million dollars this year, compared to lets say the Florida Marlins who are 27-19 and their payroll is $21 million dollars (once again, that's less than what Alex Rodriguez makes a year). The Metropolitans are really not playing good baseball, the only person on their team who is batting over .300 is Ryan Church (who is playing stellar baseball) everyone else is not doing well. Delgado's average is almost below the Mendoza Line (he's batting .218 see: Mendoza Line), Beltran is batting somewhere around .250, Wright is around .280. Jose Reyes, as I've said on numerous occasions is beyond overrated. He's finally starting to pick it up batting .276 with 14 bags stolen, 4 HRs and 19 rbis. Finally, he's starting to pick it up (I drafted the guy, he's supposed to do good, I assumed anyway).
The Braves have 5 guys who are in the vicinity of batting .300, and some of them already have batted .300 and their averages fluctuate with every game. Chipper Jones is batting .412, McCann is batting .329, Escobar is batting .315, Kelly Johnson is batting .299, Kotsay is batting .296 (much improvement to Andruw Jones' average ...which is actually below the Mendoza Line). The Braves problem is their pitching staff, for the last ten years it's been their pitching staff, Tim Hudson settled down last night and pitched phenomenally for 8 innings. It's just funny to me that you go out and spend this boatload of cash on a guy who is supposed to be your saving grace and clearly he's not lighting the world on fire.
Another interesting tidbit...the Braves have scored 232 runs, they have a team ERA of 3.42 (second only to Oakland). The Mets have scored 213 runs, and have a team ERA of 4.09.

Smoltz likely to become Braves closer...
John Smoltz who has been fantastic this year on the mount, 3-2 with a 2.00 ERA, in 5 starts. He also has struck out 36 batters have 10 K games back to back.
The problem is, Smoltz is getting old. His arm is killing him (much like the rest of the Braves organization) and the Braves and Smoltz are looking at a possible return to the Bullpen when he returns in a few weeks.
The reasons behind this are:
Rafael Soriano is out...for a while.
Peter Moylan is out...for at least a year.
Mike Gonzalez should be back at the end of May, but who knows.
The Braves need a solid closer, a closer who in 3 years collected 144 saves. If the Braves want to win the division they need Smoltz in that Bullpen, because right now, the bats are doing their job; it's the pitching staff that's struggling.
[EDIT] Smoltz also said that he would start in the Post Season; if he did move to the Bullpen in during the season.

Report: Braves acquire Kotsay from A's...
Well..not yet ..anyway, but they're on the verge of getting Mark Kotsay from the Oakland A's for Relief Pitcher Joey Devine. This bugs me, because Kotsay has had seriously bad fucking back problems for the last year and is 32-years old, while Joey Devine is 24-years old...and has a lot of road ahead...

Bravos ink Glavine.
Yeah, that's right folks. The Braves, my favorite baseball team for the last 15 years, have inked Tom Glavine to a one-year $8 million dollar contract. This is awesome. I know that this is probably going to be Glavine's last season playing for any team, as he's 40+ years old, and I believe he wants to retire as an Atlanta Brave.

Tommy Glavine looks at return to Braves as a possibility...
Holy Effin' shit. I definitely want this to happen, Glavine was fantastic on the Braves who let him go a few years ago to the Mets. After an abysmal year with the Mets (despite the 300th win) in 2007, he looks to regain some of that glory by resigning with the Braves.
Frank Wren, GM of the Braves, sounded optimistic saying that they'll speak next week some time and hopefully work out a deal.

Tommy Glavine declines $13 million dollar option. . .
That's right folks, Tom Glavine, a future HOFer, has declined his $13 million dollar option to play with the New York Mets for another yet, citing he "needs time to make the decision."
Maybe he'll sign with the Braves? Who knows?

Report: Andruw Jones out of Atlanta.
ESPN is reporting that John Schuerholz has told Andruw Jones and his Super-Agent Scott Boras that The Braves have no interest in resigning the Gold Glove Center Fielder.
Jones hit an abysmal .222 this season with 26 HRs and 94 rbis, his worst numbers in a very long time. In his first 86 games batting cleanup for the Bravos, Jones collected a low 64 rbis batting in the spot.
Therefore the Braves went and traded for Texas Ranger First Baseman Mark Teixeira, who came in on August 1st, and in his 54 games with ATL he had 56 rbis batting in the cleanup spot.
The Braves are at no loss for talent, however, they're probably looking for a one year replacement.
Also, The Mets have decided to stick with Willie Randolph despite the collapse of the team at the end of the season. No duh. Was there any doubt really. The guy is still a good manager, although at the end of the season he looked worse than Jose Reyes September Batting Average.

If you're terrible at your job, you deserve to get fired.
Such is the case with Bob "I blow saves like hookers blow cock" Wickman. The Braves (JD's favorite team) cut ties with Wickman today after he went 20 of 26 in save opportunities with a 3.92 ERA. Two options for the Bravos are Manny Acosta (Triple A 20+ saves and an amazing ERA) and Joey Devine. Acosta is apparently one of there stronger prospects, and could definitely fill the role. For now, the Braves will use Soriano as a Closer even though he's been a little sketchy as well. Honestly, this scares me.
